Why hire from Harlyn Surf School?
We have a great range of surf kit available for hire from our beach base at Harlyn. Choose from stand up paddleboards, sit on top kayaks, surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuit hire.
We are open on the beach daily in June – September and the main school holidays. During these times you do not need to prebook the hire. Outside of this please contact us to see if we are able to hire.

Beach Equipment Hire FAQ’s
We are open daily from Whitsun to mid September. For hire outside of these times please email us and we will endeavour to sort hire kit out for you.
We open from 9am – 5.30pm. The last hire is at 4pm and must be returned by 5.15pm.
Yes we require a photo ID such as a driving licence or passport. Car keys are acceptable. These items will be left with us until you return the kit.
No we do not allow this for safety reasons.
Yes from May until end of September between 10am and 6pm daily.
Yes. These must be worn at all times once you enter the water.
We have a clearly defined area and ask you to always stay in sight of the lifeguards and no further than 400m from the shore.
Yes 24hr hire is available but not for Kayak or SUPs.
Your safety is our priority and if we deem that the weather and sea conditions are not appropriate to hire kit we will not do so. Please be aware that both weather and sea conditions can change quite quickly and occasionally we have to stop hiring if we deem conditions to have become unsuitable.
No we do not operate a reserve system. We do however have plenty of kit which is hired on a rotational basis with a max hire period for kayaks and SUPs being 2hrs. There are occasions when our equipment is being used for our lessons and tours which are for a max 3 hr period.
Under 16’s MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian when hiring a SUP or kayak unless in exceptional conditions we deem it appropriate. We reserve the absolute right to refuse hire. Should a parent or guardian sign the hire agreement as written approval on behalf of the equipment user it is deemed that the equipment user is the hirer and accordingly agrees to not allow any other person to use the kit.
No. there are specific safety rules and regulations that you as the hirer have agreed to abide by. We also fit buoyancy aids to each person specific to size and age. If these are passed to a friend or family member they may not be the correct size.
Yes. Absolutely. Our kit costs us money it is not free. A full list of replacement charges is available at our beach unit.
No. We operate a busy surf and hire business. We ask that you keep your stuff in your car or with your friends or family on the beach. We will look after your keys for you. We will not be liable for any personal belongings that you have left in the surf school base.
We advise you wear contact lenses or prescription goggles as there is a safety risk when using kit in the sea.
