Harlyn Surf School is a family owned and operated company and, as parents ourselves, we have a driving ambition to share the joy of the ocean with a new generation. We take extreme pride in the knowledge that the skills that children and teenagers gain during our summer surf camps will keep them safe well into the future, whilst providing a stepping stone to great new experiences and knowledge that will last a lifetime.
What happens at Summer Surf Camp?
At Harlyn Surf School, our summer surf camps include a dazzling array of activity and adventure, including surf lessons, body surfing, lifesaving skills, and beach games. During the week participants will have the time of their lives with the main emphasis on learning and developing surfing skills. Our unique approach to surf lessons and innovative teaching techniques encourage participants to challenge their boundaries and push themselves outside of their comfort zone. Children and teenagers achieve standards they never dreamt possible. Each participant will receive a certificate and there will also be an opportunity to purchase photos. All equipment for the courses is supplied FREE.
During the course children will make new friends, receive personal attention and will gain knowledge, board riding skills and a respect for the ocean and environment. Summer Surf Camp includes one 2 hour session over 5 consecutive days Monday – Friday or we have a mini camp 3 sessions Mon - Weds. We have an adult surf camp for 3 sessions(£105) or if you just want to have a surfing experience why not book on one of our taster surf sessions? These run at the same class time as the surf camp sessions meaning you can relax knowing that your children are well supervised while you have fun learning to surf!! For those parents that may not wish to surf a popular activity is stand up paddleboarding, easier to learn than surfing and great fun!! Sit on top kayaks are also available to hire from us and these are very stable and a great way to explore the coastline, no experience is required.

Surf Camp Safety
Safety is of course paramount for all our surf camps and surf lessons. We are a fully insured company and our Cornwall Council licence and ASI and Surf Life Saving Accredited Training Centre status requires us to operate within strict parameters. All our instructors are as expert as you will find anywhere, CRB checked, qualified surf lifesavers, first aiders and experienced in coaching and working with children and trained by our company owner Chris Rea who has extensive experience in this area.
At Harlyn Surf School, we use soft foam safety boards with safety fins for our beginners and X Cel wetsuits one of the best wetsuits on the market. Our staff to student ratios are kept lower than the recommended industry limit. We have a deep knowledge of Harlyn beach and the surrounding area having grown up here and surfed here for over 30 years as well as running our surf school and lifeguard training centre from here for the last 17years. We know the operating parameters as well as anyone.
