Surf Coach Lifesaver

This qualification is specifically for those candidates who want to work as a surf instructor in the UK and need to have a lifesaving qualification. The course is held over 6 days including the exam and can be combined with the ASI Surf Instructor Course. There is no timed pool swim. We have recently linked with two of the top european surf camps, the Surf Experience in Portugal and Oceano Surf Camp in SW Spain and will be offering our courses in conjunction with these companies during the winter months. Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas

Adult + Child CPR,  First Aid,  Spinal Incident Management,  Board Rescue,  Recovery position and aftercare, Tows and releases

What are the entry requirements? --  You must must be physically fit and able to swim 200m as well as run 200m on the beach in under 60 seconds

Who is this course aimed at? --  People who want to work as surf instructors, outdoor pursuits instructors or embark on careers in rescue and emergency care.

What will I be doing on the course?  Lifeguarding Theory, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation,  First Aid,  Spinal management,  Open Water Skills

Do I need to have experience? --  Previous experience is desirable but not essential as all training will be provided during the course. Having basic board skills and a knowledge of the beach and ocean environments will help.

How and where do I study the course? --  The course takes place at Harlyn Bay near Padstow and runs from a Monday – Friday with the exam on the Saturday.

How old do I have to be? --  Candidates must be age 16 on the day of the exam

Do you offer accommodation? --  We can recommend accommodation providers in the immediate area.

How much is the course and what does it include? --  £295 including SLSA membership, training manual, exam fee and certification

What is the difference between the Beach Lifeguard course and the Surf Coach Lifesaver Award? -- The Surf Coach Lifesaver Award is specifically designed for surf coaches who need to have a lifesaving qualification. It cannot be used to apply for beach lifeguard positions. There is no timed pool swim in the SCL award and the 200m run must be completed in under 1min.

What can I do after the course? -- The qualification allows you to work as a surf instructor on beaches in Britain and is valid in many countries worldwide. It is also a stepping stone onto other courses and careers in rescue and emergency management.
